SafeCampus
A mobile app for UCT students. Discreet emergency alerts, real-time incident notifications, and mental health support resources.

Why we built it
Built for the GirlCode Hackathon in a team of 3. We all had stories of safety concerns on campus, and wanted an app that meets those needs directly: panic alerts, incident maps, anonymous reporting, and quick access to mental-health support. It aligns with UN SDG 5 (Gender Equality) and picked up 2nd place in Cape Town.
My side of it
I owned the Flutter front-end and the Firestore data model. The map view pulls live beacon locations, and the reporting flow syncs offline so a report written on the walk home commits when signal returns. The hardest single piece was the panic button (long-press plus haptic), designed to never fire by accident but never take more than a second when it needs to.
